Did you know that if you are an engineering undergraduate student (and therefore a member of your Engineering Undergraduate Society) that you are eligible to receive a subsidy on your sports registration fees? Well you are!
Who is eligible for the subsidy?
Any current undergraduate student in engineering! If you are in your graduating year, you are eligible until the day of your convocation.
Who will receive the subsidy?
Subsidies will be given out upon the discretion of the EUS Sports Coordinator, but will most likely be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis until the subsidy budget runs out for the year.
How much does the subsidy cover?
25% of your registration fee up to a maximum of $25 per engineering student. This depends entirely on the subsidy budget, however! If an overwhelming number of students apply for the subsidy, what you are subsidized may be reduced.
You may submit as many requests as you like, though you may not be subsidized for every single one—it is up to the Sports Coordinator. Only one sport per student occurring during the summer terms is eligible.
If I have a team of mixed faculty students or non-student players, can I still get it subsidized?
Only EUS members will be subsidized which means that if not all your players are members of the EUS, we will partially subsidize 25% of the fee based on the number of engineering students are on the roster.
The equation will exist as such:
($ Total cost of team registration) / (Total # of players on the roster) X (# of EUS Members on the team) X 25% = $ Eligible Subsidy
What kinds of sports are eligible?
All recreational sports leagues within BC are eligible. Both team sports and individual sports are eligible.
e.g. Vancouver Ultimate League, Urban Rec, UBC Rec, UBC Intramurals, Storm-the-Wall, etc.
What don’t you subsidize?
We will not subsidize extra fees incurred by the team other than the basic registration fee. Nor will we subsidize uniforms, equipment, clothing, etc. Varsity sports are not eligible. This particular subsidy will not subsidize self-started sports teams/leagues. Contact sports@ubcengineers.ca for other options.
What do I have to do to get the subsidy?
The form is available here in PDF format.
For Individuals:
Fill out the top portion of the form provided.
For Teams:
Have one representative from your team fill out one form for the entire team. You will be required to get each member to fill out the lines on the lower portion of the form.
Staple your registration field receipt to it, and submit it to the EUS Sports Coordinator. You may place it into the VP Events mailbox next to the computer lab in the Cheeze, or email sports@ubcengineers.ca.
You must submit the form within one month of the date printed on your receipt. For sports occurring during the summer months, forms are due in September. The AMS General Administrative Office (SUB 2nd Floor) will handle all reimbursements. The Sports Coordinator will e-mail you to let you know when your subsidy should be available for pickup from the SUB.
