The EUS works hard to advocate for students. Students’ concerns are heard each term at a Beef and Pizza event, and individual student complaints received throughout the year are taken up by the VP Academic with the appropriate members of faculty. We can help find the best way to solve your problem or direct you to people who will be able to assist you. These complaints can be addressed to voice@ubcengineers.ca.
In addition to addressing individual student complaints, the VP Academic works with faculty to try and improve problematic courses and programs. For example, due to a committee struck by members of your EUS Council in 2005, students may now use language courses towards their humanities credits (restrictions apply, please visit the Degree Requirements FAQ page for more information). In summer 2007, due to a multitude of complaints and concerns from the EUS Council, Co-op ran a comprehensive external review of their program and are now undergoing changes.
More recently, Engineering Student Services has hired an undergraduate engineering student over the course of the summer to improve the ESS website after numerous student complaints and work by the 2008/2009 VPs Academic. Additionally, faculty is looking into a number of specific courses, especially APSC 201 and APSC 450.
