+What communication/English requirements do you need in First Year?

It is recommended to take English 112 or APSC 178 (A pending technical writing course), but you can satisfy your first year English requirements with any 3 credit English course.

At the end of your first year English course you must take the English Communication Competency Test. If you do not pass, you must take a remedial course, such as APSC 098, and then retake the test again and pass to get into second year English.

+What communication/English requirements do you need Second Year and beyond?

The only remaining English course after passing your first year course and competency test is APSC 201.

+What complementary course studies do I need to graduate?

You need 20 credits in total to graduate that must have at least the following (Additional courses may be considered if you gain approval from ESS):

o 6 Communication credits (see above)
o 2 Professional Development credits (APSC 450 or equivalent)
o 3 Engineering Economics credits, typically a 3rd or 4th year course offered in your department
o 3 Humanities credits (see next drop-down section)

o APSC 263 (3)

o CIVL 200 (3)

o CPSC 430 (3)

o POLI 361 (3/6)

o SOCI 260 (3/6)

+Which humanities satisfy the requirement for my complementary courses?

Almost all arts courses satisfy this requirement except scientific geography courses, statistics courses and studio/performance courses in fine arts, music, and theatre. Courses that teach language skills are NOT acceptable. In addition ANTH 140, CLST 301, PHIL 120, 125, 220, and PSYC 218 are not accepted. Your Impact of Technology on Society credits may also count.

+Do language courses count towards my complementary courses?

If your Impact of Technology on Society credits are from the faculty of arts, you can take 6 credits of language courses to count towards you complementary courses. If this is not the case, language courses DO NOT satisfy the humanities requirement and you may only take 3 credits of language courses.

+What should I be keeping in mind for a masters degree?

If you’re still far from finishing your degree, keep your marks high (an average above 76%) and start getting good relations with your professors. If your nearing graduation, visit your prospective university’s graduate program webpage for more detailed information.

+What distinctions can I get with my degree?

You will be put on the Dean’s Honor List if you have an average of at least 80% while taking 30 or more credits in the Winter Session.

You get a Degree with Distinction if you achieve an overall average of at least 80% on all 200-level and higher courses that are registered in the B.A.Sc. program.
