This page contains useful information about available scholarships, from external leadership awards to UBC engineering-specific scholarships. Although some of the information is from the previous academic year, it is updated as soon as the new application forms/deadlines are made available.

GENERAL ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIPS
- APEG-MAPS University Undergraduate Scholarship
APEG-MAPS members are eligible to apply for the APEG-MAPS University Undergraduate scholarship. Valued at $1,000 each, these scholarships are offered annually to APEG-MAPS members attending engineering and geoscience programs in BC, and reward undergraduate students for their contributions to the advancement of the professions. Interested applicants for the Ted Baynes Award, Ahmad Bhimani Scholarship and University Publishers Scholarship should submit a resume and cover letter to the Engineering Student Services Office (KAIS 1100) by Friday, February 5, 2010.
N.B. If you are applying for more than one award, please submit a separate application for each.
- G.E. “Ted” Baynes Student Award ($1500) – Applications Due: Feb. 5, 2010
An award of $1500 has been endowed by G.E. Baynes, B.A.Sc. ’32. The award is made to an undergraduate student who is a Canadian citizen and who has demonstrated strong qualities of leadership, combined with active participation in sports. In selecting the candidate, consideration will also be given to academic standing and financial need. The award is made by the Faculty of Applied Science in consultation with the EUS.
- Ahmad Bhimani Memorial Scholarship ($600) – Applications Due: Feb. 5, 2010
A $600 scholarship has been endowed in memory of Ahmad Bhimani, by his family, friends, and classmates. It is awarded on the recommendation of the Faculty of Applied Science to a student entering fourth year who demonstrates a strong commitment to, and enthusiasm for, academic activities, community endeavours and sports. This scholarship does NOT apply to those students who are finishing up their 4th year from the previous year.
- University Publishers Scholarship in Engineering ($800) – Applications: Feb. 5, 2010
A scholarship of $800 is offered by the University Publishers to assist an Engineering student. The award is made on the basis of academic standing and participation in the activities of the EUS. The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty, in consultation with the EUS. The financial circumstances of the candidate may be a consideration.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR WOMEN IN ENGINEERING
- Glamour’s Top 10 College Women Competition
This award is for “dynamic young women with leadership experience, academic excellence and inspiring goals.” The winners receive a $3000 cash prize, recognition in Glamour and a trip to New York City for an awards luncheon. Any woman who is currently a full-time junior at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada for the 2008-2009 academic year was eligible to enter.
The 2008 deadline for the Glamour scholarship was December 1.

- The Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation’s Scholarships for Women in Engineering
The Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation is proud to announce its 2009 Scholarship Program – there wase 14 scholarships available last year ranging from $2,500 to $15,000 for women in engineering at the undergraduate, master’s and PhD levels.
The deadline for application for the following four scholarships was January 16, 2009.
- Vale Inco Undergraduate Scholarships in Engineering ($10,000)
Women in Canada who are pursuing their studies in engineering at the Undergraduate level in 1st, 2nd or 3rd year and who are genuinely interested in pursuing careers in the mining industry in their chosen discipline are invited to apply for one of THREE NEW annual $10,000 Vale Inco Undergraduate Scholarships in Engineering.
These scholarships come with a summer job opportunity with Vale Inco.

- CEMF Undergraduate Engineering Scholarships ($5000)
The Foundation offers five $5,000 annual scholarships to Canadian women in engineering in either their 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of study in an accredited program in Canada. One scholarship is given in each part of Canada – Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, Prairies and British Columbia.

- IBM Canada Undergraduate Scholarships for Women in Engineering ($2500)
Canadian women who are pursuing their undergraduate engineering studies in either electrical or computer engineering and are in their second or third year of study are invited to apply for one of these two annual $2,500 plus A SUMMER JOB! engineering scholarships funded by IBM Canada.

This scholarship is offered to a Canadian Aboriginal woman studying engineering in an accredited program.

The Minerva Foundation for BC Women is pleased to announce that applications for the following Education Awards are being accepted. The application deadline was June 1, 2009.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS THINKING ABOUT GRAD SCHOOL
- Full Scholarships for Undergraduates in Science and Technology from KAUST
The King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is being built in Saudi Arabia as an international, graduate-level research university. KAUST has a merit-based application process and is beginning to recruit men and women from around the world.
The scholarship benefits include:
- Full tuition to complete degree at the student’s current undergraduate institution
- Monthly living stipend
- Textbook and computer allowance
- Travel costs for participation in KAUST-sponsored science, technology and leadership activities in Saudi Arabia and regionally.
Upon the completion of the undergraduate degree program, students will receive:
- Admission into a master’s degree program upon meeting the program’s admission requirements at the KAUST campus in Saudi Arabia.
- Full scholarship at KAUST, including tuition, housing and travel costs.
