2011/2012 EUS First Year Elections Guidelines and Regulations

The Engineering Undergraduate Society executive and the Elections Administrator wish to extend a welcome to all potential candidates in this year’s EUS First Year (PP) elections.  The PP council is an excellent opportunity to get involved with your student society, meet new people, get the most out of your first year here at UBC, and most importantly, have lots of fun!

Nomination Forms are due by the 20th of September; you can hand them in at the Cheeze, in the PP Elections Box; we will start accepting nomination forms after the first tEUSday meeting on the 13th.

Elections Rules

These rules are in place to ensure that the elections process is as fair and equitable as possible.  Warnings shall be given to candidates found to be breaking any rules.  Continued rule breaking may result in being disqualified from this election.

  1. Candidates may not libel or slander other candidates.
  2. Each candidate shall submit a 100 word statement and photograph to the Elections Administrator at least one week prior to voting, to be posted on the website and at the polling station.
  3. Any campaign or voting irregularities are to be reported to the Elections Administrator.
  4. Candidates are encouraged to use methods of campaigning other than just postering, such as classroom appearances.
  5. Although no reimbursements will be made for campaign expenses, each candidate is restricted to spending $30 at fair market value on campaign materials.
  6. Failure to adhere to the regulations specified in this policy may result in disqualification from the election.
  7. The Elections Administrator is the ultimate authority in determining the repercussions of breaking these regulations.
  8. Candidates shall not run in slates, real or apparent, or share expenses for campaign materials.  A slate shall mean a group of candidates who run for elected office on a similar platform for mutual advantage.  This includes endorsing other candidates, campaigning as a group, and campaigning on the behalf of other candidates.
  9. All active campaigning must stop when the polls open
  10. Any campaigning (posters, chalk writing on sidewalks, classroom announcements, etc) must be approved by the EA before being carried out.
  11. A tie will result in both candidates being appointed to share the position they were running for.
  12. Candidates shall only run for one position within the PP council

Tuesday, September 13th, Noon – Nominations Open

Tuesday, September 20th, Noon – Nominations Close, campaigning starts

Thursday, September 29th, 5pm – Campaigning finishes.

Friday, September 30th, 8am – 5pm – Voting
