WESST retreat serves as an annual general meeting and provides an opportunity for current and future leaders of WESST member societies to gather for workshops, open discussions and presentations on issues surrounding engineering student life. It brings together delegates from engineering schools in the Western region of Canada including University of Manitoba, University of Saskatchewan, University of Regina, University Alberta, University of Calgary, Simon Fraser University, University of Northern BC, University of Victoria and our own UBC delegates. Held at the same time, WESST Olympics are a purely social gathering of all the member engineering student societies and includes a fun competition between the societies. Its purpose is to promote and encourage the interaction of students on a regional level. It is also designed to bring out new students and to introduce them to activities outside their respective engineering societies. WESST Retreat 2011 is hosted by the University of Saskatchewan Engineering Students’ Society, in Saskatoon.
A delegate fee of $150 dollars will be charged to successful delegates, this cheque can be made out to the “UBC Engineering Undergraduate Society” with “WESST Retreat Delegate Fee” on the memo line. A deposit cheque of around $100, made out to WESST with “Retreat Damage Deposit” on the memo line. The damage deposit will not be returned in the case of physical or financial damage to the EUS, WESST, or the camp facility, and will be redeemed if necessary.
There will be approximately 7 delegates from UBC sent to this event. Given the location, we will most likely be flying out Thursday, October 6 (so be prepared to miss class) and returning Sunday, October 9.
Applications for the 2011 retreat are now closed. Check back next year for the chance to attend!
