National Conference on Women in Engineering (NCWIE)
The National Conference on Women in Engineering focuses on the progressive involvement of women in the exciting and challenging field of engineering. Keynote speakers and breakout session leaders bring years of experience and insightful knowledge. In 2003 the conference was declared a national event; being the only such meeting in Canada. Men and women from across Canada and the United States are welcome and encouraged to attend. Student delegates are provided with a wealth of knowledge about careers, education, industry and much more.
WESST Retreat
WESST retreat serves as an annual general meeting and provides an opportunity for current and future leaders of WESST member societies to gather for workshops, open discussions and presentations on issues surrounding engineering student life. It brings together delegates from engineering schools in the Western region of Canada including University of Manitoba, University of Saskatchewan, University of Regina, University Alberta, University of Calgary, Simon Fraser University, University of Northern BC, University of Victoria and our own UBC delegates. Held at the same time, WESST Olympics are a purely social gathering of all the member engineering student societies and includes a fun competition between the societies. Its purpose is to promote and encourage the interaction of students on a regional level. It is also designed to bring out new students and to introduce them to activities outside their respective engineering societies.
APEGBC Conference and Annual General Meeting
The comprehensive program includes two days of professional development, combining industry-leading technical and business sessions. An extensive Trade Exhibition and numerous social events will give you the perfect opportunity to network with colleagues and suppliers while enjoying the lush surroundings of Whistler, BC.
CFES Congress
The CFES Congress is the annual general meeting of the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students. Each year, during the first week of January, the over 200 engineering students from over 45 engineering schools across Canada come together to participate in the conference. Each conference has a theme that is explored by guest speakers from various organizations (public, government, industry, education) in the form of lectures, round table discussions and panel discussions. As well, many workshops on student programs, current issues, CFES operations and other topics of interest are held throughout the week.
Student Leadership Conference (SLC)
The Student Leadership Conference is UBC’s largest student-run conference, providing over 1100 delegates with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills through engaging workshops and speakers. This year’s conference will take place on January 8, 2011.
The Engineering Undergraduate Society will be sponsoring students to attend. To apply for this sponsorship, please fill out the application below and email it to vpexternal@ubcengineers.ca. For more information on the SLC, visit slc.ubc.ca .
The UBC Engineering Competition(UBCEC)
UBCEC is the qualifying competition to get into WEC, held here at UBC on November 13th. All 6 events which are contested at WEC will be competed for at UBCEC; the top 2 winning teams from each event move on to participate in WEC. For more information, please visit the UBCEC page here.
Western Engineering Competition (WEC)
The Western Engineering Competition is a regional competition that brings together innovative engineering students in the Western Region of the country, from Manitoba westwards. Competitors from nine engineering schools come together during the third week of January each year to compete in six different categories. The competition categories are meant to showcase the ingenuity and aptitude of engineering students beyond their curriculums.
The top two teams from the UBC Engineering Competition in the Junior Design, Senior Design, Impromptu Debate, Engineering Communications, Innovative Design, and Consulting Engineering categories are the qualifying competitors representing UBC at this great event.
Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC)
Each year, the Canadian Engineering Compeition brings together 150 of the most innovative and creative engineering undergraduate students from across the nation to compete against each other in one of six categories. Each competition category at CEC challenges its participants to expand their frame of reference and to identify solutions to problems experienced by our profession. At the Western Engineering Competition (regional equivalent), competitors who place in the top first and second places in each competition category are invited to attend this prestigious national competition. This year’s CEC takes place at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. UBC is proud to be the host society for CEC 2012!
International Engineering Competition (IEC)
A collaborative event run by CFES, BEST, and bonding, the International Engineering Competition brings together the brightest engineering students from Canada and Europe to compete in one of Senior Design or Consulting Engineering categories. The top two teams from the Canadian Engineering Competition (national equivalent) are invited to attend this event, giving them the opportunity to take part in an once-in-a-lifetime experience in their undergraduate careers.
