The NCAA Division II Review Committee for UBC Vancouver has submitted its final report to UBC’s President, Provost and Vice-President, Students. The report is thirty pages in length and is accompanied by 558 pages of appendices. You can access the complete report including appendices at www.students.ubc.ca/ncaa

The report will be reviewed by the University’s Executive in late March or early April, and will then be referred to the Senate and the Board of Governors for information. Please note that the committee has no decision-making powers.

The UBC Faculty Cup is now recruiting the planning committee for next year’s event. Join an amazing team of students as they help organize five faculties in a full day competition for the prestigious Faculty Cup!

The goals for the 2010 Faculty Cup include:

  • Involving more students in this exciting event
  • Growing the Faculty Cup to be one of the largest events on campus
  • Becoming the premier event for inter-faculty involvement on campus

Hi, my name is Dion. I’m organizing an ice hockey team for the UBC Rec League. We played last term as a MTRL team (and had an over .500 record) but we are short of players this term so I am looking for any engineers looking to get on a team. We are registering in Tier 1 which is a very competitive tier so past ice hockey experience is necessary. You will also need to have all your own equipment other than a jersey. Game times are between 10-12pm on weeknights typically and we will play approximately once per week. League fees are $1250/team and I can register a maximum of 22 players. If you are interested please email me (dionjl@gmail.com) with your full name, student# and past hockey experience. Registration is due on Wed the 7th at noon (I need a minimum of 12 players at that point).

Thanks,
Dion L.

(Webmaster’s note: let me know if you’re organizing a team and want to put up a last-minute call for engineers to join your team. And remember you can get a sports subsidy)

Hello,

In light of the upcoming rec season, we would like to get more engineering representation in all of the leagues.

If you are interested in playing in any league next term and cannot find a departmental team please email the following addresses and we will be compiling engineering teams with sufficient interest.

If interested, please email your Name, Student Number, Sport that you are interested in playing, and your preferred skill level.

Please send this back quickly as registration opens this Wednesday; as soon as we have enough people for a team we will register them. As the sports subsidy is insufficient to cover the cost of teams we will be contacting members of potential teams to obtain the money for required for registration (split between members).

Thanks,

Brad and Jay

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone had a very active life this term (NOT sitting on a couch, drinking beer, eating chips and playing video games)…

Anyway, EUS Sports Subsidy applications for this term is due November 17, Monday.

*Deatails of EUS Sports Subsidy can be found here www.ubcengineers.ca/wp262/?page_id=188*

Submit your application to EUS Sports Coordinators / VP Finance or just drop it in the Sports mailbox inside the Cheeze.

For those who already submitted it, you’ll be getting a notification to pick up your money during the last week of school.

Cheers,

Athletics & Recreation is a hot topic right now at UBC!

Firstly, UBC is considering joining NCAA Division II. This is a huge leap because we’d be one of the first non-US teams. Should we make it? UBC is asking you on their consultation site.

Secondly, the AMS is spearheading a consultation on the recreation student fees. In short, they think we pay a ton ($207) in student fees so it’s not fair we then have to pay more for leagues and drop-in. Visit the AMS website and/or the Facebook page to read up on this. Mike Duncan also blogged about it. Then give the AMS some feedback!

Recreation is a key to a great time at UBC, so take this time to get informed and have a say in the direction you want UBC to take.
