The Engineering newsletter (e-nEUS) is a joint-initiative between the UBC Engineering Undergraduate Society and the UBC Faculty of Applied Science. This weekly newsletter  provides a unified, diverse source of information for all Engineering undergraduate students at UBC.  Articles such as job opportunities, scholarship opportunities, social events, tutoring, and more are hosted within this newsletter each week.

The e-nEUS Editor will compile content for the weekly newsletter from a variety of sources including the faculty, engineering student services, and the EUS, and will distribute this content to undergraduate students using a web-based system. The student will also collaborate with all other engineering student groups to ensure that their events are publicized in the weekly newsletter.

The student editor will be responsible for developing associated content for the EUS website in conjunction with the EUS webmaster. This web content will include a full archive of the weekly newsletters, as well as updates to their Google calendar.

Applications are now open for all volunteer positions in your EUS!

At the end of every year, the EUS does a call for volunteers to fill next year’s Coordinating Manager (CM) and Ex-Officio positions.  Responsibilities range from handling our weekly BBQ’s to planning our amazing Engineer Your Career Fair jobs fair; with over 40 different positions currently up for grabs, it’s guaranteed that you can find a position that will suit you and your interests.

The EUS is now accepting nomination forms for the following 2010-2011 Executive positions:  VP Communications & Administration; VP Finance; VP Academic; VP External; VP Events; and President. The positions of AMS Representative(s) and Applied Science Student Senator are also available.

You can also submit an application to be a part of the Elections Committee, where three students at large are tasked with ensuring a fair and well run elections.  For details on the position as well as how to apply, please download the EUS 2011 Elections Committee Application Form.

The UBC Engineering Competition (UBCEC), held here at UBC on November 13th, is a day of engineering challenges hosted annually by the EUS. Categories include Junior Design, Senior Design, Consulting Engineering, Engineering Communications, Impromptu Design, and Innovative Design.  For more info on each event and how to register, click here.  For general guidelines and registration info, click here.

UBCEC is also the prequalification for WEC. The Western Engineering Competition (WEC) is a highly prestigious competition between engineering students from the nine different universities in Western Canada.  All 6 events which are contested at WEC will be held at UBCEC; the top 1 or 2 winning teams from each event moves on to participate in WEC, which will be held at the University of Saskatchewan from January 26th to January 30th.

Your Engineering Undergraduate Society  is sponsoring a handful of EUS members to attend the APEGBC Conference and AGM in Whistler, BC October 21-23, 2010.

The PP (first year) Council is the student government of first year engineers, with the PP Council President sitting on the EUS Board of Directors. The PP council is given a budget, some advice and guidance from the EUS President, and access to tons of support, and then they are let loose! From paintballing to poker parties, any event that the council comes up with and is willing to organize can be done. The council also sees to the Academic and Professional concerns of first years. Being part of council is a great way to get involved without a ton of time committed, meet a large number of first years, and develop your leadership skills.

Want some rewards for all your efforts towards sports and charity this year?  You may be surprised by what activities qualify towards patches! Patches are great additions to your Red/Cardigan/backpack etc.

Sports

For being part of sports teams, doing storm the wall or taking part of an EUS event, you get points towards large E patches!

Charity

For giving blood, taking part of Pi in the Face, donating to charity, you get points toward charity star patches!

Fill in the forms in by Friday, April 9 and they will be given out at our Volunteer Appreciation Night!

The UBC Engineering Competition is now accepting application forms!  Basically the qualification round to get into the Western Engineering Competition, we will be holding all 6 WEC events at UBC within the coming weeks!  For details on each event, and how to apply, click here.
