Hey First Year Students! Interested in getting involved in the EUS this year? Then this is an excellent opportunity to get involved by running for a position on the First Year Council. Elections are scheduled for the 25th, and the nomination forms will be due by next Tuesday, the 22nd at noon. The applicants will give a small speech during the tEUSday meeting, after the nomination forms have been verified. Nomination forms can be found here, as well as more info on what you can do on PP Council.

Frosh Week – September 9-18
The first two weeks back at school are all about showing first years what UBC Engineering is all about! These two weeks are packed with fun events, competitions, and plenty of free food and drink.
Frosh Retreat – September 18-20
The one event you can’t miss! An all-inclusive weekend retreat specifically for first years, this is the best way to get to know your fellow students and meet older, wiser students. For many students, it’s the best memory of all first year.

The EUS Scholarship is here!
In order to foster growth, leadership, initiative, and innovation in the engineering community, the EUS feels it is important for the community to acknowledge and give back to those individuals who go above and beyond expectations and positively impact UBC engineering.
From now on, every year the EUS will give back $3000 in scholarships to engineering undergraduate students! Applications are due electronically to vpacademic@ubcengineers.ca on 31 May 2009 for the first batch of scholarships, which will be given out in September 2009. The $3000 is divided into four awards: two will be junior awards ($500 value each) for students entering second or third year. The other two will be senior awards ($1000 each) for students with fourth-year standing in September.

The UBC Faculty Cup is now recruiting the planning committee for next year’s event. Join an amazing team of students as they help organize five faculties in a full day competition for the prestigious Faculty Cup!

The pilot wave of ECCTs from November have been marked! The faculty is currently working on a distribution system using Vista, and you will receive your results very soon.
The next sitting of the Engineering Communications Competency Test will be held on March 24, from 6 to 830 pm in Wood 2 and 3. To take this test, you must have successfully completed a 1st year English course, or its equivalence, or be currently enrolled in a 1st year English course, or its equivalence.
Update: Due to the conflict with the PHYS 153 midterm, the faculty is attempting to change the date of the ECCT to March 23. Details will be confirmed soon.
