Welcome to the incoming First Year and Transfer Undergraduate Engineering Students and Welcome Back to returning students. The Cheeze is clean. Frosh Kits are packed. Frosh Shirts are ready to go! Your EUS Executive and volunteers look forward to seeing you all at the Cheeze and other events during the coming weeks! Check out the Frosh Schedule online or pick up a copy of the schedule from the nEUSpaper available at the Cheeze.

Come by the Cheeze during the Faculty Fair and take advantage of the Frosh Week Red Sales Subsidy on red jackets, pay for your Frosh Retreat Registration, or learn about getting involved with the EUS or other engineering groups at UBC. And don’t miss the First Year Imagine Day BBQ at the Cheeze 6pm sponsored by Prep 101. Free burgers for first year engineering students! There will also be a presentation from last year’s First Year Council on some of their experiences from the 2010/11 year.

Frosh 2011 is only 1 week away!

Frosh 2011 is coming up soon! Whether you’re a brand-new first year, or a returning student, there will be no shortage of events for your enjoyment.

Frosh Week this year runs from September 6-16, with Frosh Retreat taking place September 16-18.  Check out our Frosh Website for more details.

If you’d like to register for Frosh Retreat as an incoming student, check out our Frosh Retreat page. Act now! There are a limited number of tickets, and with an event this awesome, they’ll be selling fast.

If you’re new to UBC this September, you may or may not know anyone. You may also have questions, be looking for textbooks, or just curious on what sort of environment you’ve gotten yourself into.

Have no fear! There is an EUS-run facebook group made solely to be a way for incoming first years to connect to each other in preparation for the new year. You can check it out here. There is also a logo contest, which closes at midnight, July 31st.

Once the first year council has been elected, the group will then pass to them to run and use for whatever they choose! If you’re potentially interested in being a part of this, make sure to talk to any exec you see, peruse the website some more, and take part once the elections are announced!

On behalf of the other executives, we’re very excited to meet you all in just over a month and a half! Make sure to come out to Frosh events and say hi!

The new exec have been keeping busy this month, a couple weeks ago we were all up at SFU for the Western Engineering Student Societies Team Executives Meeting (WESST EM). It was a great experience where we got to meet representatives from the western schools while absorbing valuable information and learning new skills. Dan and I attended the APEGBC President’s dinner last night, where we got to hear from David Podmore, one of the main people involved with the new BC Place!

In case you’re on campus this summer and need somewhere to chill, the Cheeze will be open! Summer hours are Monday-Thursday from 9AM to 6PM. If you do stop by, make sure to respect the space and clean up after yourselves.

FROSH IS IN 3 MONTHS! I’m already rather excited, especially after meeting some more incoming first years at last weekend’s Welcoming Day. If you happen to be a first year, make sure to join the facebook group here so you can meet others and ask some questions! Don’t forget to check out the frosh events closer to September, as they’re a great chance to meet people and start getting involved in Engineering!

Hope you all have been having an awesome summer so far!

The engineering yearbook, the Slipstick, is now on sale for 20$! Included with the yearbook is a complimentary DVD, filled with all of the pictures taken throughout the year in high resolution, as well as the top 3 videos from this year’s engineering video contest, filmfeust!  You can pick up a copy at our booth in the Kaiser Atrium (11-2pm, only for the last week of school!), or contact slipstick@ubcengineers.ca.

(Grads can pick up their free copy at their respective departmental club room).

Are you interested in hearing from upper year students about their department? Want to go on a fun, informative tour of all the Engineering clubrooms? Sign-up today for the First Year Clubroom Crawl, happening Friday, March 11th from 4pm to 7pm. Many previous students have attributed this tour to helping them decide which program to enter in their second year. Prizes will be given out as well!

The results are in for the 2010 PP Council Elections!  Click here to find out who you’re new first year council is!

Campaigning is under way for our first year elections!    Voting will be on Friday from 10am – 3pm in the Kaiser Atrium.

To see who’s running for first year council and why you should vote for them, check out the candidates page

The PP (first year) Council is the student government of first year engineers, with the PP Council President sitting on the EUS Board of Directors. The PP council is given a budget, some advice and guidance from the EUS President, and access to tons of support, and then they are let loose! From paintballing to poker parties, any event that the council comes up with and is willing to organize can be done. The council also sees to the Academic and Professional concerns of first years. Being part of council is a great way to get involved without a ton of time committed, meet a large number of first years, and develop your leadership skills.

Nomination forms are currently being accepted for the 2010/2011 PP Council; for more details, click here.  For a full list of all positions, click here.

Voting day is scheduled for the 24th of September!
