The mission of the EUS is to support the academic, professional, and social needs of engineering students, encourage excellence in all aspects of student life, and celebrate the accomplishments of its members.
The EUS broadens learning beyond an academic degree and fosters pride in the multi-faceted accomplishments of our members. Through diverse and effective services and events addressing the needs of all constituents, the EUS builds a welcoming environment for members of the engineering and UBC communities, past and present.
The EUS, or Engineering Undergraduate Society, is a student society comprised entirely of students in the UBC Engineering Program. This means that if you are an undergraduate student in Engineering, then you are a part of the EUS…that is, your EUS. Your EUS has existed since 1919, although it was then known as the Science Men’s Undergraduate Society. It was created as a social and academic support network, as well as providing a public face for the students.
Like the AUS (Arts Undergraduate Society), the SUS (Science Undergraduate Society), the NUS (Nursing Undergraduate Society), the GSS (Graduate Student’s Society), and every other student society at UBC, the EUS is a mandatory “club” you are automatically enrolled into when you enrol in the program. As a part of this “club”, you pay member fees (as a part of your tuition fees) of $142. $100 goes to the Professional Activities Fund, $40 to the EUS operating budget ($7 of which goes to your departmental club), and $2 is made as a charitable donation to the UBC chapter of Engineers Without Borders.
The EUS Operating Budget is a public document that can be viewed by any member upon request.
