President [president@ubcengineers.ca] – Daniel Olson

I hope everyone is excited for a great year in UBC Engineering.  We are very fortunate to be attending such a diverse, well-respected university. One of the greatest benefits of being at UBC is the opportunity for so many activities outside of the classroom. From student teams, to Engineers without Borders, to dance clubs, entrepreneurship clubs, departmental clubs, and the Engineering Undergraduate Society, opportunities abound to learn new things, meet new people, and have a great time.

I consider it a great honour to be your EUS President. From helping your professional development, providing academic services, and hosting a wide variety of amazing social events, the EUS executives and volunteers are here to help make this year exceptional.

As President, my job is to manage the powerhouse executive team shown in the coming pages and to represent you to external organizations such as the AMS and faculty. With our new vision statement in place, pushing for a more multi-faceted EUS, my job will be to ensure that we are moving to provide a community that best fits your needs and makes sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable. This process of course will be much faster if everybody helps out.

Communication is critical to ensure our Society runs smoothly and serves YOU the best. Be sure to read your weekly e-nEUS. It will contain important announcements and information intended to keep you in the loop. The EUS is nothing without its students providing their voice and feedback.  There was no VP Academic within the EUS until a few years ago because students spoke out for stronger academic representation. There was no Imagine UBC or Gala awhile back until students spoke out for a better first-year orientation! You can help make your community so much better for both yourself and those years to come.

Don’t forget, even if you are an upper-year student, it is never too late to get involved and become a more well-rounded engineer and global citizen.

Of course there is so much more that can be said so if you feel like it, come find me and talk to me! I am a student just like you – I’m in 4th year Chemical Engineering and I love to meet new people, play music, and watch the Canucks and Whitecaps! You can email me, find me around Kaiser or the Cheeze,or come  visit me in KAIS 1120E during office hours.

VP External [vpexternal@ubcengineers.ca] – Alex Lush

Greetings!

I’m Alex, a third year Chemical engineering student and your VP External Affairs for this next year. I hope you’ve all had an excellent summer and are excited for a brand new year here at UBC Engineering.

If you haven’t already heard, UBC is the host for CEC (Canadian Engineering Competition) 2012! There are six different areas you can compete in, anywhere from Junior Design to Impromptu Debate. Make sure to sign-up to participate in the UBC Engineering Competition, held in the fall, for a chance to represent UBC at the national level.

The External portfolio is full of opportunities, such as networking with students at conferences & competitions to meeting industry at mixers and career fairs. Make sure to read your e-nEUS for any events and workshops, as well as the website for any new information. It’s never too early to start developing the valuable skills that your future employer may be looking for.

I can be found at the Cheeze or any surrounding areas, so feel free to come up and chat! You can also send me questions via e-mail or carrier pigeon.

VP Communications & Administration [vpcomad@ubcengineers.ca] – Hans Seidemann

Hi there!

I’m Hans Seidemann, and I’m your EUS VP Communications & Administration this year. It’s a good thing I’m handling communications, since I talk… a lot.

So what do I do? First, I make sure that every student in engineering here at UBC knows about all the amazing events, activities and opportunities available to them through the EUS. While I’m at it, I try to keep the wheels of the society turning, by organizing our meetings and all the other odds and ends that need doing. Make sure to check out our informal tEUSday meetings (12:30 Tuesdays at the Cheeze) to see the fun side of the society, or come see the business end at our council meetings every other Monday night in the SUB Council Chambers. There’s free / cheap food!

Most importantly, I’m here to make sure that you get the most out of your EUS. If you have questions about or ideas for the EUS, it’s my goal to make sure that you can get those across. Look for me on campus (I usually hang around the Cheeze) or email me with your thoughts. All comments are welcome!

Welcome to UBC, and your EUS!

VP Academic [vpacademic@ubcengineers.ca] - Jack Park

Hello UBC Engineers!  I am super excited to be your VP Academic this year!  In this position, I oversee the plethora of academic services that the Engineering Undergraduate Society offers, including our tutoring sessions, scholarships, course database, and seminar series. I’m also delighted to work closely with E-Team, who provide software training sessions, health workshops, first-year BBQs, and other events. In addition, I act as a liaison between students and the APSC faculty to raise concerns regarding curriculum and co-op. If you have an issue, idea, or suggestion, feel free to email me, attend one of our Beef & Pizza sessions, or talk to me in person.

I’m in my second year of engineering with the interest of working in the aerospace industry. I enjoy staying active through running, biking, and my new-found love for dragon boating!  I’m passionate about music, hence why I love playing the piano and the trumpet.  When it comes to watching shows, there’s nothing better than Lie to Me, Glee, Phineas and Ferb, and of course, watching the best hockey team in the world (Go Canucks Go!).

I love talking to and meeting new people, so don’t hesitate say “hi” whenever you see me around!

VP Events [vpevents@ubcengineers.ca] – Stephanie Mah

Hey everyone!

I’m Stephanie, a 3rd year ECE student and your VP Events this year.  From September to April, I plan to continue our best traditions, resurrect some old ones and create some new, awesome additions.  I’m really confident in my team this year and can assure all of you that we’ve got some spectacular stuff planned.  If you want to be one of the people making the magic happen, come talk to me and I’ll definitely put you to work.

When I’m not frantically running around for the EUS, I enjoy partnered dancing, drawing pretty things and going shopping.  I also enjoy long walks in the city and candlelight dinners, but that’s something else entirely.  To procrastinate, I look at pictures of kittens, make inventive and sometimes inedible meals and eat cake, lots of cake.

So to wrap up, I hope 2011/2012 brings you good studying, great partying and fun times all around!

See you,

Stephanie

VP Finance [vpfinance@ubcengineers.ca] – Ian Campbell

Hi There!

I’m Ian, VP Finance for the 2011-2012 year. What do I do for the EUS? Well, of course first you want to hear about me. I’m in my third year of Electrical Engineering, currently on co-op at the Brain Behaviour Lab in the UBC Hospital, programming and designing hardware to support rehabilitative research. I love coffee, video games, poorly written movies, coffee, tasty beverages, electro music, coffee, cycling, robotics, coffee, and coffee.

In short, I’m in charge of managing all the money paid to the society as part of your student fees. I write the budget, review all society transactions, oversee business operations, and help maintain the vending, pop, and arcade machines for the EUS. I make sure we’re spending your student fees effectively and not losing them through any hair-brained ideas.

This year I’m looking to revitalize some EUS businesses that have fallen by the wayside, help to further expand Red Sales (the Engineering paraphernalia store), and ensure that everything we do is financially stable so that we can transition easily into the new Engineering Student Centre when it’s finished.

If you ever need reimbursements for anything you’ve purchased for the EUS, have questions about funding, want to see the full budget, or just want to chat about whatever, give me a shout!
