EUS SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS!!

The recipients of the 2010 EUS Scholarships have been chosen!

The EUS Scholarship was established in 2009 to recognize demonstrated leadership, personal initiative, innovation, and service to the UBC Engineering community.  Congratulations to Frank Liu, Alim Jiwa , Laz Milovanovic, and Sean Heisler ; each student has contributed greatly to the UBC Engineering Society.

Junior Category ($500)

Sean Heisler

SeanSean is a 3rd year transfer student in Integrated Engineering. Since coming to UBC, he has been very involved in the engineering community, having served as Applied Science Student Senator, an EUS Equity Officer, a member of the external review of ESS, and a GEERing Up! Co-Director. He has also represented UBC in the Canadian Engineering Competition in Impromptu Debate, placing 1st in 2009 and 2nd in 2010 as part of a team of four. Outside of the Engineering Community, Sean is currently a student member of the UBC Board of Governors.

Frank Liu

FrankFrank will be entering his second year of engineering this fall. As a first year, he become actively involved with the Engineering Undergraduate Society, serving as the Volunteer Co-ordinator where he was responsible for the planning of the EUS Volunteer Appreciation Night. He also served as a UBC delegate to the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students (CFES) Congress in Hamilton, and volunteered at the UBC Engineering Open House.

Senior Category ($1000)

Alim Jiwa

AlimAlim will be entering his fifth year of Mechanical Engineering this fall. Alim’s biggest accomplishment is the leadership of UBC Thunderbots, the robotic soccer team, which he currently serves as one of the team captains. As a result of his efforts, the team has grown to roughly 30 members and is competing in the International Robocup Competition in Singapore this summer, which has drawn widespread media coverage for UBC Engineeing. Alim also competed as part of a team in the Senior Design category at the Western Engineering Competition, placing 2nd overall. Alim has also volunteered as a MUG leader, where he led a group of 13 first years around campus on Imagine Day.

Laz Milovanovic

LazLaz is entering his final year of Engineering Physics (Electrical Option) in September. Laz’s biggest contribution to the engineering community was acting as a co-founder of E-Team, which is a volunteer group focused on academic and professional development from students. He has also been actively involved with the Engineering Physics Student Association, serving as the Sports Representative from 2007-2008, and as the Vice-President Internal from 2008-2009. In addition, he has served as a Squad Leader and MUG Leader with UBC Orientations, where he developed training programs for upper year students and developed engineering specific programs for the first day of classes. Laz has worked with the UBC Wellness Center and at the Student Leadership Conference.
