Foosball tourney 2

We are just three days into E-Week with another 3 to go and the turn out and the level of competition have been spectacular! Here’s a recap of what you’ve missed if you couldn’t manage to make it out to everything!

Day 1

opening ceremonies
E-Week kicked off at midnight on Monday morning with the official opening ceremonies, hosted by our very own Honourary President, Jennifer Pelletier! The Cheeze was packed to the brim with excited Engineers, stoked to be at the biggest E-Week ever. Then everybody left.

The next morning, the day started off with some delicious pancakes, hash browns and bacon at Red Eye Breakfast. Many students were very tired from staying up all night “preparing” for E-Week…

After feeding students again at our daily Cheeze BBQs (you get half price if you wear red!), we went straight to Profs vs Students Trivia!

Trivia with Profs
Featuring Dr. Dunwoody, Dr. Nakane, Dr. Ostafichiuk and Jennifer Pelletier, our honorary president, the profs’ side showed no mercy on the students. Students did manage to catch up in the middle with the final score being 340 to 330 to the profs.

Highlight: Dr. Nakane, an Engineering Physics professor, after finishing answering some tough physics questions, buzzing in to the question “Who is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta?” Answer: Lady Gaga.

Next up was Trivia with CHBE vs MINING vs SPD/AOE. CHBE took an aggressive lead in the beginning and never backed down, winning the game!

Up next was Day the Movie Died, where we took on the movie ‘Total Recall’. (Spoiler Alert) With the ending scene having the core of Mars (apparently all ice) melting into oxygen and  atmosphere that pushed its way out of a volcano, creating blue skies on Mars in a matter of minutes, us engineers found some things a bit off throughout this movie. In the end Fizzers dominated with their witty and scientific answers to why this movie was inaccurate. SPD/AOE came a close second and CHBE third.

4 Legged RaceThe last event of the day was Four Legged Race where a huge number of competitors toughed it out in the rain to race across campus as 4-legged-3-headed bodies. Competition was fierce but in the end GEO took the gold, with Enviro as second and Mining as third!

The day ends with the Spirit Coordinators and VP Events (and other keen individuals) going to bed for the first time in 48 hours…

Day 2

WOOT! Finally well rested, we kicked off the day with the Godiva Band March! After circling campus and invading Ladha for a bit, our kickass marching band marched its way to our Annual General Meeting where crowds of people ate free pizza and learnt about what the EUS Executive does!

After that we had consultation for the Engineering Student Center running concurrently with more trivia! This time with GEO vs MECH vs PPs (First Years) vs FIZZ, GEO took the win (with a valiant effort put in by the PPs!).

DodgeballUp next was Dodgeball. Outdoor Dodgeball. Outdoor Cage-match Mud-pit with-soaking-wet-dodgeballs Dodgeball. Some teams were apprehensive about getting their shirts dirty, other teams embraced it and even tore off their shoes. Although Frat/AOE beat MINE 1 in the semis, they lost to MINE 3 in the finals in an epic showdown.dodgeball2

Our very own first year council was up next with their own event! Leading your department blind-folded through a obstacle course, FRAT/AOE came out victorious over the PPs themselves who only came second!

PP Event

The last event of the day was Pit Purge where engineers stormed the pit with over 140 people representing red there! During the Keener races, FIZZ proved that although they may have been the slowest to drink the beer, they had the most accurate answers! FRAT/AOE came second and IGEN placed third.

pit purge2 In the coin placement, EECE was extremely impressive, with a dominant lead, showing some serious balance and muscle control, with FIZZ placing second and GEO third. Our last event was couch potato races where Mining took the gold in popcorn-eating and drinking followed by GEO and FIZZ. After this full day, we saw SPD/AOE take the lead with GEO close behind!Pit Purge

Day 3

After starting the day with delicious fair trade chocolate chip and banana pancake breakfasts courtesy of EWB, we were all revved up for the E-Ball soccer tournament!

E-ball soccerSome teams were a bit sparse as the previous day may have taken its toile on key members, but Mech/Fizz and Mining proved to be up for the challenge against the 6 foot tall soccer ball! Team GEO/ENVIRO/CIVIL came third while Mining (the only full team there J) came second. Mech (with one Fizzer), however, with their team averaging 6’3 or so, dominated and took no prisoners to win this event.

More BBQs ensued afterwards and we still have two of these to go! Half price if you are wearing any form of red clothing!

Our last trivia match was MTRL vs IGEN vs EECE vs CIVIL. Civil put in a good effort to make it to the final round, but IGEN dominated and didn’t heckle the question reader as much this time.Trivia 2

The E-Team event, featuring Kat Louman-Gardiner was next and well attended! I think she said she was on the track team, the UBC ultimate team, some other sports team getting a degree in Music and Mechanical Engineering (then later a masters in Bio-Mech), being involved in Club Mech and an EUS executive…and being on the Canadian Bobsled Team for the Olympics. Holy crap eh?

Next up was our department wide foosball tourney. Engineers take their foosball seriously. With 43 teams of two signed up and 4 tables going at once, this two hour long tourney was intense. In the end, Materials proved to be the best at foosball for the 3rd year in a row taking first and second place! The runners up were EECE then FIZZ!

Games night poolGames night was the last event of the day! We had street fighter, rock paper scissors, pool, starcraft, super smash brothers, Mario kart and poker all going on! Mining really dominated here, placing top two in 5 of the events!RPS

With that last bit of push from Mining, they take the lead for the week!

Still up are MAJOR point scorers however with film fEUSt, the Ball Model and attendance to Old Red New Red!! Make sure to come out to the career fair too!
