The Question
Do you support the EUS establishing an incremental Engineering Student Center Fee (the ‘Fee’) to contribute to the construction of a new Engineering Student Center? The amount of the Fee would be $15 in the 2009/10 school year; would increase to $30 in the 2010/11 school year; and would increase to $50 in the 2011/2012 school year. As a result, your EUS fee would rise from $42 to $57 in 2009/10, to $70 in 2010/11, and to $90 in 2011/12.
Note:
- The Fee would increase in each school year after the 2011/12 school year by the rate of inflation determined by the Canadian Consumer Price Index.
- The Fee would continue to be levied until the EUS has completed all its financing obligations for the new Engineering Student Center.
- With the end of the temporary Engineers without Borders fee, the overall EUS fee was scheduled to drop from $42 to $40 in 2010/11.
- The Fee would be levied on all active EUS members on a yearly basis.
- The Engineering Student Center is intended to be built as a replacement to the existing “Cheeze Factory”, but in the event that this proves to be impossible, an alternate location or a renovation/expansion of the “Cheeze Factory” would be considered in consultation with students.
- The Fee will not be levied until the EUS reaches agreement with the Faculty of Applied Science as to the terms of the Faculty’s financial contribution through fundraising, for the construction of a new Engineering Student Center.
- The EUS Council will establish a process for active EUS members demonstrating financial need to apply for a refund of the Fee.
